Advanced abs and backbends

A series of workshops designed to help you stand tall, whittle your waist, and increase your overall strength, stamina, and mobility.  These workshops may be taken individually, though you will receive significantly more benefit by attending the full series.  These workshops are accessible to most students, even those new to yoga.

Saturdays 12:30-4:30pm

5/31: Find and Use Your Abs
Learn essential Abdominal Activators and their variations.  Finding and using your abs correctly will release your spine, not tighten it.  This release and support is necessary for supported back-bending movement (true extension), and ultimately, to keep you standing tall through life.  We will explore these mechanics in teh Navasana (Boat Pose) variations and Yoga Sit Ups, and then bring this support to Shalabhasana (Locust) and its variations.

6/7: Deeper Abdominals and Backbends
Continue developing abdominal awareness and use in Full Boat Pose (Navasana), and begin exploration of deeper abdominal poses.  This deepening spinal release and abdominal support will decompress  your spine, overcoming and reversing the normal compression that occurs with age (this is why people et shorter as they get older--and why in becomes more difficult to move the body as it once did).  You will then support yurself safely in the Pigeon Poses, even Full King Pigeon Pose, Svaroopa's only full spinal backbend.

6/21: Abs for Support and Movement
The benefits of this new body mechanic of spinal release and abdominal support include: standing taller and being more grounded (in both your body and mind), stamina and vitality increases, everyday strength and flexibility also increase, reduce and eliminate general aches and pains (foot, knee, hips, low and mid back, upper back and shoulders, hands and arms, neck, head, etc...), even long-standing health concerns will change.  Now bring what you've learned into movement and ultimately your life.  Learn deeper Abdominal Activators; Prana Pump, a moving spinal massage coordinated with Pranayama (5 minutes a day will change your life!); and find new and more supported movement in Sun Salutaion, Surya Namaskar.
